Installing VMware vCenter Server Appliance 6.7

Installing the vCenter Server Appliance is not difficult easy. You need to run the applicance installer from your favorite OS and follow the wizard. You can download a trial from the vmware website. When it is done you can access the vSphere portal and start adding ESXi hosts.

I will use my W10 desktop to start installing. The installer is located in the vcsa-ui-installer/win32 directory and is called installer.exe. The following screen is opens:

The installation and configuration is done in 2 steps. The following screens guide us to install the appliance.

vCenter Server Appliance - Deploy Applicance
Step 1. Deploy appliance.
vCenter Server Appliance - Accept license
Accept license.
vCenter Server Appliance - Deplouyment type
Select the all in one Appliance.
vCenter Server Appliance - provide esxi host
Select the ESXi host where the appliance can be installed.
vCenter Server Appliance - accept certificate
Accept the footprint.
vCenter Server Appliance - root password
Set the root password.
vCenter Server Appliance - select deployment size
We have a small lab so we will go with a Tiny deployment.
vCenter Server Appliance - select datastore
Select on wich datastore the appliance can be hosted. Our little servers have a local harddisk, so we will select that one. We will rename these datastores later.

In the lab I run a Synology server that will provide basic DNS which I can easily maintain.

I prepared the DNS already so I can fill in nice names. These names, we can also use them after the installation to logon to the system. In this lab the Synology runs in another VLAN at 192.168.68.5.

And… we are done with the installation.

As stated before the installation is done in two Stages. Lets now start with Stage 2.

Select Stage 2: Setup vCenter Server Appliance.

Create a domain if you don’t have one yet

Choose if you want to opt in or out with the CEI Program. For some monitoring feedback it might be mandatory to opt in.

Last overview and click finish.

Click ok to start the configuration
