Set static IP address in ESXI 6.7

Because the lab infrastructure is not full proof I decided to give my ESXI hosts a static IP address. This way I can use my own DNS and manually update manage this. I’ve read in the documentation that vmware is fine with DHCP addresses however I’m unable to set and resolve them at the same time.

Let’s open the ESXi ui en goot the networking section. Next go to the VMkernel NICs.

Select vmk0, you will now see the current IP address.

Now click on Edit settings and change the IP address. In my case this will be 10.0.12/24, which means a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.

When you click save the settings will be saved and the new IP address is active.
